Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, fondly referred to as IITKGP by its kin, right from its inception formed the bridge between Indias ancient wisdom and modern technology. IIT Kharagpur started its journey in the old Hijli Detention Camp where some of our great freedom fighters toiled and sacrificed their lives for the independence of our country. The history of IIT Kharagpur is thus intimately linked with the history of the Hijli Detention Camp. This is possibly one of the very few Institutions all over the world which started life in a prison house.There were 224 freshers and 42 teachers in August 1951 when the first session started. The class rooms, laboratories and the Administrative office were housed in the historic building of the Hijli Detention Camp. The Institute started its academic programme with only ten Departments. IIT Kharagpur has been engaged in a steady process of development with about 18 academic departments, five centres of excellence. the vast tree-laden campus, spreading over 2100 acres has a self contained township of over 15,000 inhabitants. Currently we have about 550 faculty, 1700 employees and 9000 students on the campus.

🎓 QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENT
Professor
A medical Qualification included in the I or II schedule or part II of the third schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act of 1956 (Persons possessing qualifications included in part II of third schedule should also fulfil the conditions specified in section 13(3) of the Act.)
A postgraduate qualification e.g. MD/MS or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto in the respective discipline/subject.
AND/OR
M.Ch. for surgical super-specialities and D.M. for Medical Super-specialities (2 years or 3 years or 5 years recognized Course) or qualification recognized equivalent thereto.
Experience:Fourteen years teaching and/or research experience in recognized Institution in the subject of speciality after obtaining the qualifying degree of M.D./M.S. or qualification recognized equivalent thereto.
OR
Twelve years teaching and/or research experience in recognized Institute in the subject of speciality after obtaining the Degree of M.Ch./D.M. (2 years or 5 years course recognized after MBBS) in the respective discipline/subject or a qualification recognized equivalent thereto.
OR
Eleven years teaching and/or research experience in recognized Institution in the subject of speciality for the candidates possessing 3 years recognized Degree of D.M/M.Ch. in the respective discipline/subject or a qualification recognized equivalent thereto.
Essential for Non-Medical Candidates :
Postgraduate qualification e.g. Master degree in the discipline/allied subject. A Doctorate degree of a recognized University in concerned discipline.
Experience:
Fourteen years teaching and/or research experience in the discipline/ subject concerned after obtaining the Doctorate degree.
Associate Professor
Essential for Medical Candidates

Experience;
Eight years teaching and/or research experience in a recognized Institution in the subject of speciality after obtaining the qualifying degree of D.M./M.Ch. (2 years or 5 years recognized course after MBBS) in the respective discipline/subject or a qualification recognized equivalent thereto.
OR
Seven years teaching and/or research experience in a recognized Institution in the subject of speciality for the candidates possessing 3 years recognized degree of D.M. / M.Ch. in the respective discipline/subject or a qualification recognized equivalent thereto.
Essential for Non-Medical Candidates :
Postgraduate qualification e.g. Master degree in the discipline/allied subject. A Doctorate degree of a recognized University in concerned discipline.
Experience:

Assistant Professor

A postgraduate qualification e.g. MD/MS or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto in the respective discipline/subject.
Experience:
Three years teaching and/or research experience in recognized Institution in the subject of speciality after obtaining the qualifying degree of M.D./M.S. or qualification recognized equivalent thereto.
Essential for Superspeciality disciplines:

However, no experience is necessary for the candidates possessing the 3 years recognised degree of D.M/M.Ch. or qualification recognised equivalent thereto.
Essential for Non- Medical Candidates : Postgraduate qualification e.g. Master degree in the discipline/allied subject.A Doctorate degree of a recognized University in concerned discipline.
Experience:

🏆 SALARY / REMUNERATION / PAY SCALE ₹
- Professor Level-14A of Pay Matrix Rs. 159100-220200/-(Pre-revised : PB-4, Rs. 37400-67000/-, AGP Rs. 10500/-) Plus NPA as per rules for medically qualified candidates only.
- Associate Professor Level-13A2 of Pay Matrix Rs. 139600-211300/- (Pre-revised : PB-4, Rs. 37400-67000/-, AGP Rs. 9500/-) Plus NPA as per rules for medically qualified candidates only.
- Assistant Professor
- Grade-I: Level-12 of Pay Matrix Rs. 101500-167400/-(Pre-revised: PB-3, Rs. 15600-39100/-, AGP Rs. 8000/-) Plus NPA as per rules for medically qualified candidates only.
- Grade-II: May be placed at the entry level in Level-10 of Pay Matrix with basic pay of Rs. 70,900/- or Rs. 84,800/- in Level-11 of Pay Matrix depending upon the experience and shall move to Level-12 of Pay Matrix with a minimum basic pay of Rs. 1,01,500/- on completion of 03 years of requisite experience and on assessment of satisfactory performance.
