The Indian Maritime University, established through an Act of Parliament (Act 22) in November 2008 as a Central University, is poised to play a key role in the development of trained human resource for the maritime sector.The Indian Maritime University is headquartered at Chennai and the new HQ building is built at 300 acres land allotted to IMU at Semmancherry which lies between East Coast Road and Old Mahabalipuram Road (Rajiv Gandhi Salai). The IMU has its regional campuses at Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam and Cochin. IMU presently offers Diploma, Degree, Postgraduate Diploma and Post Graduate Degree courses in Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Ship Building & Repair, Maritime Management, Doctoral Programmes and Post Sea Courses.

🎓 QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENT
Faculty (Marine Engineering) Essential Qualifications: 1. MEO Class I (Motor) Certificate of Competency issued by Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. 2. Sailing experience for a minimum period of six months at Management level within the meaning of STCW Convention, as amended. 3. VICT / TOTA Course Certificate. Desirable Qualification: TSTA Course Certificate. Experience: Six months of teaching / training experience in Maritime Training Institute(s) in India.
Workshop Instructor (Marine) Essential Requirements: 1. Marine Fitter from Merchant Navy (OR) PO/CPO/MCPO of Marine Engineering Branch from Indian Navy / Coast Guard (OR) Near Coastal Voyage (NCV) class IV Engineer. (AND) 2. VICT / TOTA Course Certificate. Desirable: Relevant work experience for a period of 1 year
Workshop Instructor (Electrical) Essential Qualifications: 1. 3-year Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from an institute approved by the All India Council of Technical Education OR PO/CPO/MCPO in Electrical Branch of Indian Navy / Coast Guard OR Electrician or ETO from Merchant Navy 2. VICT / TOTA Course Certificate. 3. Sailing experience on OSV/NCV Desirable: Relevant work experience for a period of 1 year
Workshop Assistant Essential Qualifications: 12th Pass and ITI in Diesel Mechanical Engineering/Fitter Engineering / Machinist Engineering / Welder (Gas & Electric) Engineering / Electrician Engineering. Desirable: Relevant work experience for a period of 1 year
Faculty (Nautical Science) Essential Qualifications: 1. Master (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency issued by Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. 2. Sailing experience for a minimum period of six months at Management level within the meaning of STCW Convention, as amended. 3. VICT / TOTA Course Certificate. Desirable Qualification: TSTA Course Certificate. Experience: Six months of teaching / training experience in Maritime Training Institute(s) in India
Faculty (Radio Communication) Essential Qualification: 1. COP (Second Class) and GMDSS (GOC) 2. Six months of Sea Service as Radio Officer within the meaning of STCW Convention, as amended. 3. VICT / TOTA Course Certificate. Desirable: Six months of teaching/training experience in GMDSS Course in MTIs in India.
Instructor (Seamanship) Essential Requirement: Ex-PO/CPO (Seaman Branch) from Navy / Coast Guard
Desirable: Relevant work experience for a period of 1 year
Assistant Engineer (Civil) Essential Qualification: A graduate in the respective field (i.e. B.E. / B. Tech in Civil Engineering) Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in relevant field. Desirable: Preference should be given to the candidates having work experience in Universities / Higher Educational Institutes / Colleges & candidates from CPWD / PWD Age: Not more than 50 years
Assistant Engineer (Electrical) Essential Qualification: A graduate in the respective field (i.e. B.E. / B. Tech in Electrical Engineering) Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in relevant field. Desirable: Preference should be given to the candidates having work experience in Universities / Higher Educational Institutes / Colleges & candidates from CPWD / PWD
