💺 ABOUT INSTITUTION

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 and is a deemed university fully funded by the University Grants Commission, Government of India. TISS offers over 50 Master’s Degree programmes from its Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad Campuses. Masters’ programmes are offered in a range of socially relevant inter-disciplinary areas of Social Work, Social Sciences, Health, Management, Labour Studies and Habitat Studies. TISS is a research university with M. Phil. and Ph. D. programme and basic and applied research in a range of areas. A high degree of freedom and autonomy shape the positive work ethos and creativity in the Institute facilitating strong linkages between education, research, field action and Dissemination. The Institute provides significant space and resources for basic and policy research; and has research collaboration with some of the best universities and institutions across all continents. Applications are invited for Teaching positions under CETE of the Centre, in TISS Mumbai Campus.

The Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education (CETE) (formerly Centre of Education, Innovation and Action Research) is an Independent Centre at TISS Mumbai which was established in 2015 to engage with and promote innovation in school curriculum, teacher education and higher education curriculum and pedagogy.
The Centre incubates and promotes innovations that address the need to raise quality and standards and relevant to the developing world, and the innovative use of new technologies and media. The Centre was awarded the UNESCO-King Hamad Prize for Excellence in the Use of ICTs in Education in 2018. The Centre is actively engaged in research, development, teaching, field action/action research and advocacy and offers opportunities for national and international collaboration, innovation and excellence in teaching and research. The Centre offers MA Education, BEd MEd (Integrated, NCTE recognised) and PhD in Education. It offers short term, blended and online courses and programmes for teachers and teacher educators and education administrators (www.tissx.edu). The Centre is active in research and is engaged in collaboration with national and
international academic institutions. The Centre is recipient of seed funding from the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching, and the Tata Trusts and receives support from CSR andfoundations to achieve its objectives.

🎓 QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENT

Associate Professor /Professor (One Position) (As per the suitability of candidate)
Educational Qualification: Eligibility (A or B):
A.
(i) An eminent scholar having a Ph.D. degree, Postgraduate Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed) in Humanities, Education and Social Sciences and published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with a minimum of 10 research publications in the peer
reviewed/ UGC listed journals and a total research score of 120 as per the criteria given in Appendix III, Table 2. and
(ii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university/college as Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor, and/or research experience at equivalent level at the University/ Accredited National level institutions/industries with evidence of having successfully completed at least 3-5 funded projects guided at least 2 doctoral candidates.
(iii) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology – mediated teaching learning process.
OR
B. An outstanding professional, having a Ph. D. degree in Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, from any academic institutions (not included in A ii above) / industry/ practice field, who has made significant contribution to the knowledge in the concerned/ relevant discipline and has minimum of 10 years’ experience in the field, supported by documentary evidence.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Field experience of implementation and research in teacher professional development using education technology.
2. Knowledge of and research on teacher professional learning communities.
3. Use of ICT in under resourced settings (rural/remote/government schools).
4. Research experience in use of large field education technology data and quantitative data analysis.

Eligibility Criteria for Professor (A or B):
A.
(i) An eminent scholar having a Ph.D. degree, Postgraduate Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed) in Social sciences, Sociology of Education, Education development and policy, Foundations of education, Psychology of Education or equivalent degrees in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline and published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with a minimum of 10 research publications in the peer reviewed/ UGC listed journals and a total research score of 120 as per the criteria given in Appendix II, Table 2 regulation 2018. And,
(ii) A post graduate degree in Education (M Ed or M A Education) with minimum 55%marks
(iii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university/college as Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor, and/or research experience at equivalent level at the University/ Accredited National level institutions/industries with evidence of having successfully completed at least 3-5 funded projects guided at least 2 doctoral candidates.
(iv) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology – mediated teaching learning process.
OR
B. An outstanding professional with Ph.D. in relevant/allied/applied disciplines from academics/research institutions/industries, who has made significant contributions to the knowledge in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline, and has minimum of 10 years’ experience in the field, to be substantiated with documentary evidence.

Eligibility Criteria for Assistant Professor (A or B):
A.
i) A Master’s degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in Social Sciences, Science Education, Sociology of Education, Education development and policy, Foundations of education, Psychology of Education from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. And,
ii) A post graduate degree in Education (M Ed or M A Education) with minimum 55%marks
iii) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or the CSIR, or a similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/SET or who are or have been awarded a Ph. D. degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments from time to time as the case may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET:
Provided, the candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to July 11, 2009, shall be governed by the provisions of the then existing Ordinances/Bye-laws/Regulations of the Institution awarding the degree and such Ph.D. candidates shall be exempted from the requirement of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of ‘Assistant Professor’ subject to the or equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges/Institutions fulfilment of the following conditions: –
a) The Ph.D. degree of the candidate has been awarded in a regular mode;
b) The Ph.D. thesis has been evaluated by at least two external examiners;
c) An open Ph.D. viva voce of the candidate has been conducted;
d) The Candidate has published two research papers from his/her Ph.D. work, out of which at least one is in a referred journal;
e) The candidate has presented at least two papers based on his/her Ph.D. work in conferences/seminars sponsored/funded/supported by the UGC/ICSSR/CSIR or any similar agency.
The fulfilment of these conditions is to be certified by the Registrar or the Dean (Academic Affairs) of the University concerned.
Note: NET/SLET/SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which
NET/SLET/SET is not conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/SET.
OR
B. The Ph.D. degree has been obtained from a foreign university/institution with a ranking among top 500 in the World University Ranking (at any time) by any one of the following:
i. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)
ii. The Times Higher Education (THE) or
the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai).
Desirable Qualifications
Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology mediated teaching processes preferably complining with NCTE qualifications and norms
