Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) is a modern university near GIFT City, Gandhinagar. Funded by the Government of Gujarat’s Department of Science and Technology, GBU will create a culture of excellence in innovation with entrepreneurship at its core. GBU offers Masters by Research (MScR) and PhD biotechnology programmes through its close partnership with the world-leading University of Edinburgh who provide curriculum delivery, academic leadership and faculty training. GBU has a strong translational focus, aiming to deliver biotechnology solutions for society in collaboration with the vibrant life science industry in Gujarat, across India and internationally. GBU will develop critical thinkers with a research-based multidisciplinary training. Director/ Dean
A person to be qualified to be appointed as a Director should be either A)
i) An eminent scholar with a relevant Ph.D. degree, with a focus on research and/or teaching with a substantial international reputation in Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in relevant research on biotechnology as evident from published work of high quality, leading original research of an international quality, engaging with partners and collaborators beyond academia, with ideally 10 papers, upto six in highly rated publications Industry experience and engagement, entrepreneurship and fostering innovation will be a key advantage.
it) A Master’s Degree in Biotechnology or Allied Area with at least 55% marks in related science or technology discipline (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed), and
iii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university/college as Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor/Professor, and/or research experience at equivalent level at the University/National Level Institutions with evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate; and iv) Evidence of securing substantial competitive / peer reviewed funding with a focus on industry and international partnerships. Or B) An outstanding research professional with approximately 15 years of Industrial Research experience, having a Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology and allied area as evident from research publications the concerned/allied/relevant discipline, with significant patents granted, and with PhD supervision experience.

Professor (Plant Biotechnology)
A person to be qualified to be appointed as a Professor should be either A) i) An eminent scholar having a Ph.D. degree in Plant Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on plant biotechnology as evident from a substantial publication portfolio of high quality, actively engaged in research with a significant international / national reputation, ideally 10 papers, upto six in highly rated publications ii) A Master’s Degree in Plant Biotechnology or allied area with at least 55% marks in related science or technology discipline (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed); and iii) Approximately 10 years teaching experience in university/college as Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor/Professor, and/or research experience at equivalent level at the University/National Level Institutions with evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate; and iv) Evidence of successfully securing substantial international and national research grants Or B) An outstanding research professional with approximately 10 years industrial research experience, having a Ph.D. degree in Plant Biotechnology or allied area and with significant patent outputs as an inventor, and who possess evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate.

Associate Professor (Plant Biotechnology) A person to be qualified to be appointed as an Associate Professor should either A) i) Have a consistently strong academic record, with a Ph.D. Degree in Plant Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on plant biotechnology; and ii) A Master’s Degree in in Plant Biotechnology or allied area with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed); and iii) Approximately eight years teaching experience and/or research in an academic/research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution/industry with a strong publication record in peer reviewed journals, ideally eight publications; upto four in highly rated journals and (iv) A robust research portfolio with evidence of funding and research leadership. Or B) An outstanding professional with industrial research experience of approximately eight years, having a Ph.D. degree in Plant Biotechnology or allied area as evident from research publications and preferably two granted product patents as an inventor, and with evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate

Assistant Professor (Plant Biotechnology) A person to be qualified to be appointed as an Assistant Professor should be either A) A Master’s Degree in in Animal Biotechnology or allied area with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in Plant Biotechnology and Allied Area from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. (ii) A strong academic record, with a Ph.D. Degree in Plant Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on plant biotechnology with approximately two years of post-doctoral experience. (iii) Candidates should demonstrate a strong publication portfolio in peer reviewed journals, with ideally two publications in highly rated journals. Or B) An outstanding research professional with industrial research experience of approximately two years, having a Ph.D. degree in Plant Biotechnology and allied area as evident from research publications and preferably one granted product patent as an inventor.

Professor (Animal Biotechnology)
A person to be qualified to be appointed as a Professor should be either A) i) An eminent scholar having a Ph.D. degree in Animal Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on Animal biotechnology as evident from a substantial publication portfolio of high quality, actively engaged in research with a significant international / national reputation, ideally 10 papers, upto six in highly rated publications and ii) A Master’s Degree in Animal Biotechnology or allied area with at least 55% marks in related science or technology discipline (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed); and iii) Approximately 10 years teaching experience in university/college as Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor/Professor, and/or research experience at equivalent level at the University/National Level Institutions with evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate; and iv) Evidence of successfully securing substantial research grants Or B) An outstanding research professional with approximately 10 years of Industrial Research experience, having a Ph.D. degree in Animal Biotechnology or allied area and with significant patent outputs as an inventor, and who possess evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate

Associate Professor (Animal Biotechnology)

Assistant Professor (Animal Biotechnology)
A person to be qualified to be appointed as an Assistant Professor should be either A) A Masters degree with not less than 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in Animal Biotechnology and Allied Area from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. (ii) A strong academic record, with a Ph.D. Degree in Animal Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on animal biotechnology with 2 years of postdoctoral experience. (iii) Candidates should demonstrate a strong publication portfolio in peer reviewed journals, with ideally two publications in highly rated journals. Or B) An outstanding research professional with industrial research experience of approximately two years, having a Ph.D. degree in Animal Biotechnology and allied area as evident from research publications and preferably granted product patent as an inventor.

Professor (Medical Biotechnology)
A person to be qualified to be appointed as a Professor should be either A) i) An eminent scholar having a Ph.D. degree in Medical Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on Medical biotechnology as evident from a substantial publication portfolio of high quality, actively engaged in research with a significant international / national reputation; ideally 10 papers, upto six in highly rated publications and ii) A Master’s Degree in Medical Biotechnology or allied area with at least 55% marks in related science or technology discipline (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed); and iii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university/college as Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor/Professor, and/or research experience at equivalent level at the University/National Level Institutions with evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate; and iv) Evidence of successfully securing substantial international and national research grants Or B) An outstanding research professional with approximately 10 years of Industrial Research experience, having a Ph.D. degree in Medical Biotechnology or allied area and with significant patent outputs as an inventor, and who possess evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate.

Associate Professor (Medical Biotechnology)

Assistant Professor (Medical Biotechnology)
A person to be qualified to be appointed as an Assistant Professor should be either A) A Masters degree with not less than 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in Medical Biotechnology and Allied Area from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. (ii) A strong academic record, with a Ph.D. Degree in Medical Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on Medical biotechnology with approximately two years of post-doctoral experience. (iii) Candidates should demonstrate a strong publication portfolio in peer reviewed journals, with ideally two publications in highly rated journals Or B) An outstanding research professional with industrial research experience of approximately two years, having a Ph.D. degree in Medical Biotechnology and allied area as evident from research publications and preferably one granted product patent as an inventor.

Professor (Industrial Biotechnology)
A person to be qualified to be appointed as a Professor should be either A) i) An eminent scholar having a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on Industrial Biotechnology as evident from a substantial publication portfolio of high quality, actively engaged in research with a significant international / national reputation; ideally 10 papers, upto six in highly rated journals and ii) A Master’s Degree in Industrial Biotechnology or allied area with at least 55% marks in related science or technology discipline (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed); and iii) Approximately 10 years teaching experience in university/college as Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor/Professor, and/or research experience at equivalent level at the University/National Level Institutions with evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate; and iv) Evidence of successfully securing substantial research grants. Associate Professor (Bioinformatics)
A person to be qualified to be appointed as an Associate Professor should either have A)
i) A strong academic record, with a Ph.D. Degree in Bioinformatics or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on bioinformatics; and
ii) A Master’s Degree in in Bioinformatics or allied area with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed); and
iii) Approximately eight years of teaching experience and/or research in an academic/research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution/industry with a strong publication record in peer reviewed journals, ideally eight publications; upto four in highly rated journals; and (iv) A robust research portfolio with evidence of funding and research leadership
Or B)
An outstanding professional with industrial research experience of approximately eight years, having a Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics or allied area as evident from research publications and at preferably two granted product patents as an inventor, and who possess evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate.

Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics)
A person to be qualified to be appointed as an Assistant Professor should be either A)
i) A Master’s degree with not less than 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in Bioinformatics and Allied Area from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
(ii) A good academic record, with a Ph.D. Degree in Bioinformatics or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on Bioinformatics with approximately two years of postdoctoral experience.
(iii) Candidates should demonstrate a strong publication portfolio in peer reviewed journals, with ideally two publications in highly rated journals. Or B)
An outstanding research professional with industrial research experience of approximately two years, having a Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics and allied area as evident from research publications and preferably one granted product patent as an inventor.

Associate Professor (Marine Biotechnology)
A person to be qualified to be appointed as an Associate Professor should either have
A) i) A good academic record, with a Ph.D. Degree in Marine Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on marine biotechnology; and
ii) A Master’s Degree in Marine Biotechnology or allied area with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed); and
iii) Approximately eight years of teaching experience and/or research in an academic/research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution/industry with a strong publication record in peer reviewed journals, ideally eight publications; upto four in highly rated journals; and
(iv) A robust research portfolio with evidence of funding and research leadership Or B) An outstanding professional with industrial research experience of approximately eight years, having a Ph.D. degree in Marine Biotechnology or allied area as evident from research publications and preferably two granted product patents as an inventor, and who possess evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate.

Assistant Professor (Marine Biotechnology)
A person to be qualified to be appointed as an Assistant Professor should be either A)
i) A Master’s degree with not less than 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in Marine Biotechnology and Allied Area from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
(ii) A strong academic record, with a Ph.D. Degree in Marine Biotechnology or allied area. The candidate should be actively engaged in applied research on Marine Biotechnology with 2 years of post-doctoral experience.
(iii) Candidates should demonstrate a strong publication portfolio in peer reviewed journals, with ideally two publications in highly rated journals.
Or B)
An outstanding research professional with industrial research experience of approximately six years, having a Ph.D. degree in Marine Biotechnology and allied area as evident from research publications and preferably 1 granted product patent as an inventor.
