NLSIU was the first National Law University established in India in 1986. The premier law school was set up with a mission to pioneer legal education reforms, and to anchor the transformation of the Indian legal system through research and policy interventions. NLSIU was established under theย National Law School of India Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986), which was notified in the official Gazette August 29, 1987. This Act conferred complete administrative and academic autonomy to the University which is housed in the Bengaluru University campus. It is the basic governing document for the University and all persons associated with it.


The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) was established in 1987 and is a premier institution for legal excellence in India. The University has remained the undoubted leader in legal education and research in India, ranked first among Law Universities in the Ministry of Human Resource Developmentโ€™s National Institute Ranking Framework for the last three years. The University is committed to building on its historical legacy and to become a leading global law school in the next decade. ๐ŸŽ“ QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENT

Essential Qualifications for All Posts

  1. A Masterโ€˜s Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed).
  2. A relaxation of 5% may be provided at the graduate and masterโ€™s level for the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Differently-abled categories for the purpose of eligibility and for assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions.
  3. A relaxation of 5%, may be provided, to the Ph.D. Degree holders, who have obtained their Masterโ€™s Degree prior to 19 September, 1991.
  4. The eligibility marks of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in a point scale prescribed by these regulations and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible, based on only the qualifying marks without including any grace mark procedures.
  • PROFESSOR (LAW)
    A.
    (i) An eminent scholar having a Ph.D. degree in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline, and published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with, a minimum of 10 research publications in the peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of 120 as per the UGC Regulations, 2018;
    (ii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university/college as an Assistant Professor /Associate Professor/Professor, and/or research experience at equivalent level at the University/National Level Institutions with evidence of having successfully guided doctoral candidate;
    OR
    B. An outstanding professional, having a Ph.D. degree in the relevant/allied/applied disciplines, from any academic institutions/ industry, who has made significant contribution to the knowledge in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline, supported by documentary evidence provided he/she has ten yearsโ€™ experience.
  • ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (LAW)
    (i) A good academic record, with a Ph.D. Degree in the concerned/allied/relevant disciplines.
    (ii) A minimum of eight years of experience of teaching and / or research in an academic/research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research
    Institution/industry with a minimum of seven publications in the peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of Seventy five (75) as per the criteria as per the UGC Regulations, 2018.
  • ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (LAW/SOCIAL SCIENCES)
    A. The candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or the CSIR, or a similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/SET subject to following exemptions:
    (i) Ph.D. Degree holders may be exempted. Provided, candidates who have registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to July 11, 2009, shall be subject to the fulfillment of the following conditions :-
    a) The Ph.D. degree of the candidate has been awarded in a regular mode;
    b) The Ph.D. thesis has been evaluated by at least two external examiners;
    c) An open Ph.D. viva voce of the candidate has been conducted;
    d) The Candidate has published two research papers from his/her Ph.D. work, out of which at least one is in a refereed journal;
    e) The candidate has presented at least two papers based on his/her Ph.D work in conferences/seminars sponsored/funded/supported by the UGC / ICSSR/ CSIR or any similar agency.
    (ii) Candidates who completed Masters Programmes in disciplines for which NET/ SLET/ SET is not conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC
    OR
    B. The Ph.D. degree has been obtained from a foreign university/institution with a ranking among top 500 in the World University Ranking (at any time) by any one of the following: (i) Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) (ii) the Times Higher Education (THE) or (iii) the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai).

HAL Defence Public Sector Chair at the level of Associate Professor Level 13 A as per VII CPC
To teach courses in the academic programmes as may be required; engage in legal research in the area of contract law, property law, corporate governance and other areas of business law; develop training programmes in the areas of
contracts, dispute resolution, negotiations etc.; to conceptualize and organize an annual conference on defence sector laws

Ford Foundation Endowment Chair on Public Interest Litigation at the level of Professor
To teach courses in the academic programmes as may be required; engage in legal research in the area of human rights and public interest litigation; constitutional law; public law and policy; undertake programmes for the spread of human rights literacy; engage in public policy dialogue in the field.

Registrar
A. Essential Qualifications
A Postgraduate degree with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade.
B. Desirable Qualifications
a. Experience in educational administration, financial and personnel management and capacity to lead the administration in a residential institution AND/OR
b. A Doctoral degree from a recognised University AND/OR
c. Familiarity and competence with computer software applications including word and data processing software and ERP Systems.
C. Appointment
a. On Direct Recruitment/Contract OR For a period of 5 years or till the age of superannuation i.e. 62 years
b. On Deputation
For a period of 5 years or till attaining the age of superannuation in the parent department, whichever is earlier subject to a maximum of 62 years.
D. Experience
For Direct Recruitment/Contract:
A minimum of fifteen years of cumulative teaching experience in a college or University as an Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor along with experience in educational administration; OR
Comparable experience in research and administration at a University/ National or International institution; OR
15 years of administrative experience, of which 8 years as Deputy Registrar in the Grade Pay of Rs. 7600 (Level 12) or in an equivalent post in a Government Organisation OR comparable level and position in a Non-Governmental organisation /Private
Organisation.
For Deputation:
Officers from Institutions of national importance or Universities/University-level institution who are holding an analogous post, AND/OR possessing the educational qualifications as prescribed for direct recruitment.

Finance Officer
Essential Qualification (i) Graduate degree with aggregate 60% marks; (ii) Associate Member or Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)
Desirable Qualification (i) Postgraduate degree or Diploma in Business or Finance and (ii) Proficiency in use of computer software applications including accounting software. Word and data processing software and ERP systems.
Experience Experience in Financial and Accounts matters at a supervising capacity for not less than 5 years in a recognized University or other Public or private institution.
Job Description Formulation and implementation of financial policies; financial planning and budgeting; managing funds; accounting and financial reporting and administration; conducting audits and ensuring statutory compliance.

  • Application Form can be submitted only once by any applicant.
  • If you intend to be considered for multiple positions, please highlight the same in the form. However, please indicate your intention only if you are eligible for the position as per the notification released.
  • Please attach the documents pertaining to your work experience in reverse chronological order. The same order must be maintained in the application form.
